Sydney Roosters vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Round 2 Preview & Prediction

Roosters are 0-1 and it was ugly: 18 scored, 42 conceded. That’s a -24 PD/g hole after one week.

Souths are 1-0, put up 40, but still leaked 30. So yeah, the ladder says “Bunnies flying”, but the defence says “not yet”.

For this game, I’m still leaning Roosters. Home deck at Allianz, and the market’s basically calling it a coin flip with a slight Chooks lean.

Best Bet

Roosters Head to Head @ 1.83 (Medium).

The numbers scream “bounce-back spot”. The Roosters’ Round 1 was a mess, but the ceiling is obvious when you’ve got Tedesco pumping 211 run metres/g with a try and a try assist, plus Billy Smith and Crichton both crossing. That’s points in the back five and edge.

Souths’ attack is legit too — Latrell at 2 tries/g and Campbell Graham also at 2 tries/g — but it came with 30 conceded. If that middle defence gives up cheap ruck metres again, the Roosters get field position and the halves get time.

This is also the oldest rivalry, so expect finals-like intent early. Less free footy. More kick pressure. More line speed.

Line Read

Roosters -2.5 @ 1.95 (Medium).

Tight number. Fair. If you like the Chooks H2H, you can justify the line because their best path is controlling territory and winning the grind — not pinball footy. A 1-12 type result fits the -2.5 nicely.

Souths have strike everywhere, but if their completions wobble even a little under Allianz heat, that plus/minus flips fast.

Totals Take

Under 49.5 @ 1.95 (Medium).

49.5 is a big ask in a derby where both sides know each other’s shapes. Even with Souths’ Round 1 overs vibe, this line bakes in another shootout. I’d rather bet on tightened rotations and fewer cheap tries.
