LINE-READ: -12.5 at Suncorp is a chunky start for Brisbane, but the market’s basically saying Parramatta are miles off it. I get why. Still, that number is big enough to make you think twice about laying the lumber early in the season.
Best Bet
The safest card on the page is the boring one: Broncos Head to Head @ 1.28 (High confidence). Parramatta just leaked 52 in Round 1 and are sitting on a brutal -48.0 points diff per game. You don’t need to overthink it.
Brisbane’s middle looks ready for a grind game. Payne Haas is pumping out 105 run metres and 44 tackles per game. That’s the base. If Brisbane win the ruck, they’ll play on their terms at Suncorp and Parramatta’s edge defence will get dragged into tough spots all night.
Team news doesn’t scream panic for Brisbane either. Piakura still out, Walters done for the year, but the spine is there and Maguire’s still got that Mam/Hunt rotation option up his sleeve.
Where’s the Value?
If you want a price with a bit more bite, it’s Eels +12.5 @ 1.91 (Medium). That’s not me saying Parramatta are good — it’s just maths. A 13+ loss is a specific result, and early-season footy can be clunky.
Parra do have strike carrying it out. Penisini is at 166 run metres with 10 tackles, Iongi is at 153 metres and a try assist per game, and Russell has 1 try per game. If they can hang onto the pill and avoid cheap errors, +12.5 keeps you alive even if Brisbane control most of the night.
Totals Take
Under 48.5 @ 1.95 (Medium) is the other angle. That’s a high total for Round 2 when timing is still off and rotations are settling. Addo-Carr being named helps Parra’s threat, but Hopgood’s suspension hurts their middle punch. If Brisbane get ahead, they can also just squeeze sets, kick long, and bleed clock.
